 Mike McGibney (Electric/double bass/MD)

Mike

Born in Belfast but now based in Essex, Mike is a busy electric and double bassist, performing around London, South-East and further afield. He can be seen playing shows and musicals for a variety of theatres, holding down the groove at weddings, parties and corporate functions, as well as playing jazz gigs, from intimate duos to raucous big-bands

He is the bassist for the English Pops Orchestra, and last year toured with the multi-million selling ‘Hooked on Classics‘, conducted by ELO’s Louis Clark. Click here to see a video of Mike playing the famous Hooked on Classics Pt1 at Bournemouth BIC!

As well as playing, Mike is a busy secondary school teacher, and has run the Music Technology course at an oversubscribed academy in Essex for eight years. He also teaches students of all ages and abilities from his home in Chelmsford – see his teaching page for more information.


Tim

 


 Tim Reyland (Drums)

Tim began playing drums in secondary school and has since played in many bands covering a variety of styles.

In 2008 he attended Middlesex University and in 2011 was awarded a BA in Jazz.

He has performed at many illustrious venues and studios in his playing career including; The Royal Albert Hall, The Rivoli Ballroom, The 100 Club, Café in the Crypt, Wembley Arena, Hilton Hotels and The Savoy Hotel. He has played drums for UK rapper Example’s band on Radio 1 Live Lounge and on Capital FM in support of his 2010 single ‘Won’t Go Quietly’. Currently he plays in Indie Rock band Secret Company who recently supported Mystery Jets, the Dan Spanner Big Band and the Graham Pike Quartet.

 


 


Dan Banks (Keys/Piano)Dan

Dan began learning classical piano at an early age under the careful tuition of experienced piano tutor Tim Carey. At the age of nineteen Dan started to develop a strong interest in jazz Dan soon began studying jazz at London College of Music. After a short time there Dan began playing professionally as a jazz pianist and session keyboard player.

Dan has performed at a vast array of UK jazz venues and festivals including The Jazz Cafe, The Bulls Head, The Octave, The Belvedere, Dereham Jazz Club, The Bassment, Milestones Jazz Club, Harlow Jazz Club, The Soundhouse, Manchester Jazz Festival, The Isle of Wight Jazz Festival, The London Jazz Festival and the Corsica Jazz & Blues Festival. Both as a sideman with The Shez Raja Collective, The Zak Barrett Quartet, Natural Selection, J-Brane, The Hearn Quartet and The Graeme Culham Sextet but also as bandleader for this own trio and quartet.


 


EliEli Munien (Vocals)

 

Eli Munien is a singer and pianist, playing professionally for over 15years. Born in St Albans, Eli‘s love music grew from a young age where she regularly performed in the Urdd Eisteddfod growing up in West Wales.
Eli‘s eclectic musical repertoire has seen her singing solo soprano leading the Hertfordshire choirs at the Royal Albert Hall, performing with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, and touring the UK in a number of shows: ‘I remember Marvin’, ‘Heart & Soul’ and ‘Chicago Blues Brothers’.
Eli currently performs with various originals and function bands around the UK.

 


 


Guy Barzily (Vocals)Guy

Guy Barzily is a musician, singer/songwriter and pianist.
Born in Tel Aviv, Israël, Guy moved to New York at the age of 19 and after a year in the big apple decided to move to London and concentrate on his music.
In London, Guy has worked as a live and session musician/singer,performing with various function bands and doing music sessions in different studios.


 

 

 


SimonSimon Hurley (Electric Guitar)

Simon has 20 years of live playing experience, a First Class Honours Degree in music, and has performed at many high profile stages and events including Camp Bestival, the Maverick Festival, the main stage at Harvest at Jimmy’s Farm (supporting Ed Sheeran) and the Theatre Royal Norwich (with Marc Almond).

He is a fluent in many styles but has a specialism in jazz, having supported Martin Taylor MBE, who described his playing as ‘just beautiful’.

He has also had the pleasure of playing alongside such renowned jazz artists as Martin Speake (ECM records), Nigel Price (Woodville records), Steve Fishwick and Osian Roberts (Hard Bop Records) and Mick Hutton (ECM records).

 


 


Zak Barrett (Tenor sax)Zak

Zak has played with various artists such as Mick Hucknall, Narada Michael Walden, Ashley Slater (Freak Power), “the Foundations” and “The Real Thing” and has also supported artists such as Mica Paris and most recently Martha Reeves. As a graduate of the Royal northern College of Music, he has had the opportunity to perform as a classical musician at the Royal Albert Hall, the Wigmore Hall and also play on Naxos recordings with the RNCM wind ensemble. As a jazz musician he is a founding member of “the Fellowship” band which features Guthrie Govan and Pete Riley and has performed in venues in the United States, Italy (headlining the Eddie Lang Festival) and Istanbul.


 

Albert


Albert Garza (Tenor Sax)

Born in San Antonio, Texas, tenor saxophonist Albert Garza has a sound and clarity reminiscent of the Texas Tenor Saxophone tradition of Arnett Cobb, Illinois Jacquet & David ‘Fathead’ Newman. Since completing his post-graduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, Albert has been involved with various ensembles including the London City Big Band and recently performed with Wynton Marsalis at the Spice of Life in London.
